At a news conference, Gen. Mohammed Ali Jafari said that Iran has not taken military action in the country of Syria, but has had guidance and advisers in the country for a while now.
“If Syria comes under attack, Iran’s decision to get involved militarily will depend on the circumstances” said Jafari.
Iran is an open supporter of the Syrian regime. According to Jafari, “Tehran is giving special advice and spiritual assistance to Bashar al Assad’s goverment.
“We are in communication with the Syrian government just like we are with all of our friends in the region,” said spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Ramin Mehmanparast.
In August, Leon Panetta, the US Defense Secretary accused Iran of training pro-regime militias in Syria, to attempt to prop up Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
